Can we take a moment to discuss how fun this banana split ice cream pie is?!
I am immediately transported back to childhood memories with this recipe and love all of the nostalgic flavors.
The Neapolitan ice cream combination is classic, nothing beats the quintessential vanilla, strawberry, chocolate flavors. Although I feel like nowadays you can make a banana split with any ice cream flavor you prefer. But for this recipe, I’m using the classic trio.
This is a really fun summertime dessert that is perfect for parties or summer hang outs. Like my Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches , it is so easy to make in advance and keep in the freezer until ready to serve. I also can’t get enough of my homemade Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream and Pomegranate Nice Cream in these warmer summer months.

I love setting up a banana split station with nuts, maraschino cherries, whipped cream, strawberry sauce or fresh diced strawberries, caramel sauce, chocolate syrup or hot fudge, pineapple sauce or fresh diced pineapple, rainbow sprinkles , and marshmallow creme. All of the toppings make it fun for everyone to garnish their own slice to make theirs unique and it’s fun for everyone, adults and kids!

What is a Banana Split?
- A banana-split is an ice cream based dessert. It’s traditionally served in a boat with the banana sliced in half, topped with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream.
- Toppings include a sauce of some sort: chocolate, caramel or strawberry. Also crushed pecans, walnuts or peanuts, sprinkles, whipped cream and a maraschino cherry with the stem!

Why this recipe works
- It’s a no bake recipe, perfect for summer!
- It’s great to make in advance for parties or get togethers.
- It has all of the classic banana split flavors wrapped up into one slice.
- The Oreo crust is just 2 ingredients.
- You can add different toppings to make your slice your own creation!
What ingredients will I need?
For the ingredient measurements and entire recipe, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the blog post where the recipe card is located.

- Oreos : I love the Oreo crust, but using graham crackers or Biscoff cookies works well for this recipe, too!
- Butter : a little butter for a crust to bring it together. Unsalted.
- Bananas : 2-3 large, ripe bananas
- Ice cream: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry for the classic flavors. Use your favorite brand.
- Toppings : favorite sauce (I love chocolate sauce!), whipped cream (or cool whip or coconut cream), nuts (such as peanut or walnuts), maraschino cherries, sprinkles and whatever else you love on a banana split.
Step by Step Directions
For the full recipe instructions, scroll down to the bottom of the blog post to the recipe card .

- Make the Oreo crust and press into springform pan. Freeze.
- Add a single layer of the banana coins.
- Start to layer softened ice cream. Start with chocolate. Freeze for 1 hour in between layers.
- Then add strawberry ice cream. Freeze. Lastly add the vanilla ice cream on top. Freeze.
- Once frozen completely, slice and serve with favorite toppings.

Expert Tips and Variations
- Remove the ice cream from the freezer ~15 minutes in advance so it softens enough for you to be able to spread it on evenly.
- If you don’t want to make the Oreo crust, you can use graham crackers, Biscoff cookies or Nilla wafers and follow the same directions as above. You’ll want to use about 12 sheets for the graham crackers, 1, 8.8 oz. (250g) package Biscoff cookies and about 60 Nilla wafers.
- You will need a Springform pan – I used a 9-inch springform pan . You can get one just about anywhere. Walmart has them for about $12.00 or you can get a professional one from Sur La Table for around $45.00.
- Take the ice cream pie out of the freeze 5-10 minutes before you’re ready to cut into it so it makes it easier to slice into.
- To make cutting the ice cream pie easier, run your knife under warm water first and clean it in between cuts or dip your knife in a glass of very hot water for a few seconds before slicing. Wipe it clean and dip again for each piece of pie.

Notes
- Storage: Covered in plastic wrap, it will last up to 1 week. I like to store any leftover slices by wrapping individually in plastic wrap and then in a freezer safe baggie.
